Club Penguin Will CLOSE On March 29th

Megg has just confirmed that Club Penguin as we know it will CLOSE on March 29th!!! Below is a message from Megg.

Hello penguins,

As you know, over the past few years, we’ve been hard at work developing an entirely new Club Penguin experience for mobile. With this next chapter, we will be launching an amazing new product, Club Penguin Island, that offers a uniquely penguin experience, with new features and gameplay, making it more fun than ever.

As part of the launch of Club Penguin Island in March, we will be transitioning to an entirely new platform, and, we’ve made the decision to discontinue the current Club Penguin game on desktop and mobile devices on March 29, 2017.

We’ll be celebrating the first 11 years with you with a huge party starting February 1, 2017. Here’s a little sneak peek of what you can expect at the party:

And here’s what you need to know about the closure:

  • Memberships for desktop Club Penguin and the Club Penguin app will no longer be available for purchase as of Jan. 31, 2017. From Jan. 31 until Mar. 29, 2017, current paid members can log in and enjoy full-unlimited access.
  • As of Jan. 31, 2017, paid member accounts will no longer be charged a recurring payment for desktop Club Penguin and the Club Penguin app.
  • Emails will be sent to current paid members with further information about membership including refund details.
  • If you do not currently have a Club Penguin membership, you can continue to log in and enjoy the game as you were previously, until March 29, 2017.

Players in select languages and territories are welcome to pre-register their new penguin name on Club Penguin Island to receive exclusive in-game rewards when they log in for the first time. You have until Feb. 16, 2017, to pre-register here.

We are deeply grateful for your time and enthusiasm since the beginning, and we’d like to thank each and every one of you in the Club Penguin community – we can’t wait for you to see what’s coming next.

If you have questions or would like additional information, please visit the FAQs page here.

And as always, waddle on,

-Club Penguin Team

I’m very upset to hear this news, but it was expected.

What I’m even more upset and bothered is that CP didn’t even bother to let us know with further information about everything else. Why can’t CP transfer all our belongings to the new game (this includes clothing items, furniture items, puffles, igloos, flooring designs, backgrounds, pins, stamps, and awards. Basically everything we owned in CP)? How did the CP Community find the new island? Who is the new EPF recruit, as mentioned in the EPF Handbook (despite it seemed obvious that Franky would be)? What is Rockhopper Island?

I’m even more upset that CP didn’t even bother to decorate at least for one last time every room in CP. Was it too hard to reuse old rooms and add minor decorations (banners and balloons for instance)?

It’s very upsetting that after all our years of purchasing membership, obtaining CP merchandise and some with codes to unlock items online, of being loyal to the game, that most of our loyalty will turn to naught. Worst of all, CP redesigned many of the available items for the new game and yet, it seems like CP is not even bothering to at least “re-add” the items that we have available in our CP inventory; the same exact items available in CPI.

It’s very upsetting that after years of requesting many things, for at least one more (original) Water Party, one more Medieval Party, one more Card-Jitsu Party, among many other party requests, all we got in the past year was a Frozen Fever Party 2015 2.0, an old Prehistoric Party, a dull Halloween Party, a disappointing EPF Mission, among other things. And yes, I know we got a Music Jam, but we didn’t really have to request that hard for a good one after 2 years.

While it’s nice of the CP Team to reveal a long secret/mystery, it seems like they aren’t caring as enough to make the community feel less upset of the obligated change.

I just wish that there was more “Club Penguin” in “Club Penguin Island”, especially as a way to apologize all the bad and unsatisfactory recent content in the desktop game.

A real shame, but I s’pose it had to come to this, y’know? It is quite impressive that the game has lasted 11 years. I was on CP for almost 7 years, and it was quite an enjoyable time to have. Of course, things slowed down as time went on, and I guess people moved on. I think a rebranding of the game might help CP get back on the map once again, but heavy advertising might be needed.

I am sad about this, but I hope CP will be able to continue this way.

My thoughts exactly, Ryita.
There is not enough BluePulse in the world to dry my tears.

Music to Animal Jam’s ears, and of course CP’s other rivals. There you go Animal Jam, you have now got CP’s desktop market. Disney could have easily mega advertised CP like AJ does, Flash games aren’t necessary dying, games like Animal Jam just keep both their desktop AND mobile updated with new content. They didn’t even seem to care about our feelings in their post.

That’s really sad. I’m on CP from mid-2007. So many memories through the years… But it had to come. Let’s make this two months the best months and enjoy every day of last days 🙂
