Club Penguin Discussion 6/30: Should CP STOP Giving Us Mascot Meetup Times?

Hey Everyone,

This week’s Club Penguin Discussion is all about meeting Mascots. When the first Club Penguin Mascot (Rockhopper) arrived at Club Penguin, players went crazy. All they wanted to do was to meet Rockhopper, collect his free item, and to hang out with him. The popularity of Mascots kept increasing as Club Penguin introduced more Mascots.

The Club Penguin Community started to get involved with Mascots when “Tracking” was introduced. Tracking a mascot was the FUN part of the whole mascot experience. A penguin would make a picture, and there would be four categories. Tracking: Mascot: Server: Room: The penguin would update the tracker whenever the Mascot was found. The thing was, YOU had to find the mascot yourself. That was the fun part. Penguins started to get really into the whole Tracking of mascots when Mascot Xat Chats started to appear. A big one was TrackCP. Penguins would all join the Chat, and help each other find Mascots. It was really fun.

The Mascot Chats were a hit, and you actually had to “try” to find the Mascot if you wanted their Stamp and Background. Now, if you want to meet a Mascot, all you have to do is go on the Club Penguin Blog, and boom. You automatically get a huge list with at least 10 meetup times. That isn’t fun, or awarding if you ask me.

Club Penguin started to give us Mascot Meetup Times in 2012, starting with PH, and Rockhopper. Penguins were at first, excited that they would be able to meet the mascots right away. However, Club Penguin only gave us 2-3 meetup times. You had to find the Mascot on your own after those. Throughout 2012, Club Penguin only provided us with a few meetup times.

Then in mid 2013, everything changed…

Club Penguin started to bombard us with a TON of mascot meetup times. There was no point in going on a Xat Chat and tracking the Mascot with your friend anymore. There was no point in searching servers hoping to find a Mascot. Club Penguin basically provided you with everything you needed to find a Mascot.

Another aspect that ruined the challenge for collecting a Mascot’s Background was the ability to add a Mascot to your Friend’s List. When you added a Mascot, all you had to do was simply click on them. Their playercard would come up, and you would press the”Free Gift” icon. That’s all you had to do.

In my opinion, I think Club Penguin should at least STOP providing us with Mascot Meetup times. It ruins the fun we used to have finding the mascot ourselves.

Pros:

  • Finding a mascot by ourselves and with friends, is much more fun.
  • We could bring back the old Chats again.
  • The feeling of achievement when you find a mascot.
  • The Community would become more active.

Cons:

  • Younger players might have a little hard time finding a Mascot.

What do you think?

Should Club Penguin STOP giving us Mascot Meetup times and let us find the Mascot by ourselves and with friends? Or should they continue giving us the meetup times?

Let me know what you think by leaving a comment below.

finding a mascot back at the day would make you special having a free gift and you would rarely find a penguin with a mascot background but now everyone can easily have it!! its not special anymore its like not that valuable 🙁

For your next discussion you should discuss about moderator parties. They are becoming more of postcard fests than actual parties. How can this be improved?

I don’t understand why people don’t like meet up times. You can just ignore them and have fun tracking the mascot. We have a choice of going to the meet up times.

Well,Club Penguin should still give meetup times because of servers and time but we still can find the mascot.

I don’t think they should just take away the meet up times completely,I just think they should limit the times to a few times each party.

Agreed. They should stop giving mascot times. Tracking chats brought in what was called “teamwork”. Tracking mascots was like a sport if you’d like. It brought in friendships too. The mascot meetup times reverted us back to “individuality”, something we already can master. I remember being on that very tracking chat (TrackCP) back in the day. I remember Trae66, Flame79716 and Shurow on that chat. With mascot meetup times, you hardly remember any new friends at all.

The community wants to restore their part of what makes Club Penguin fun, where we take on an important role outside of the game. Next thing you know, the Club Penguin Team might do all the blogging for us. What’s the point in that, when we have CP blogs? We live in an age where the Club Penguin Staff look like they take on a more important community role than us, when really it should be the players that are driving the community aspect.

I tracked from 2011-2012 on those tracking chats on Xat, and I had a lot of fun times. I would get so excited when I found a mascot, and I got pretty good at it. I was even an ‘owner’ on TrackCP, even a main owner for a brief period of time (those are ranks on xat, I did not actually own the chat, Graser did). Anyways, personally, I think getting rid of meetup times would not revive the ‘tracking’ community or concept. Why? Two words: Penguin Lodge. It’s as simple as that. Why track when a bot can do it for you, in a faster and more efficient way? Also, when meetup times are given, there’s bound to be a TON of penguins in that particular server/room (or rooms), so it still becomes a challenge to meet mascots that way (even more so for non-members). In my opinion, meetup times are not nearly as big of a problem as Penguin Lodge (and it’s not a problem for people who just want to meet mascots, but it is for people in the tracking community).

I’d like to add, it wasn’t the mascot meetup times that really made the tracking community pretty much extinct, it was mainly Penguin Lodge. It was in 2012 that the Penguin Lodge autotracker came out.

Good point actually.
