Club Penguin Discussion 5/29: Nighttime In Club Penguin

Nighttime In Club Penguin

This Club Penguin discussion is all about nighttime. Since the game launched in 2005, there has only been one period of time. Daytime. If you logged on at 8PM, it would still be sunny.. During Operation Puffle, the sun finally set, and the island darken. This really added a sense of realism to the game. It actually felt like it was late… and dark.

A year and a half later, Club Penguin finally had changes to its time of day during last year’s Music Jam. However, each time of day was on a 5 minute cycle, which ruined it completely. It’s authenticity was trashed. Now that we are in 2015, I feel like it wouldn’t be a better time to PERMANENTLY  add nighttime to the island.

There is so much that could be done. For example, we could have nighttime only parties! Imagine a camping mini party. In my opinion, a party like that would look phenomenal at night. We could even have a task where we would go on a scavenger hunt in search of fireflies. They would be dispersed across the island.

You know that unused task system Club Penguin has? As of right now, only new players get tasks. Club Penguin could have night time only quests! We could go out on a hunt and count how many stars are in the sky, or pick out the one that stands out from the others. Again, many possibilities.

I am all in for nighttime to be implemented into the game. Are you?

But penguins in different Time Zones, this would be hard to complete.

Those are all good ideas everyone! Night time would definitely be an epic feature to add to Club Penguin. As said before it would add a very interesting and more realistic effect to Club Penguin. I do not think that night time in Club Penguin would work very well in the current version of Club Penguin due to Penguin Standard Time and the lack of regional differences in gameplay. But, I can definitely see the team adding support to this in CP Next. As everyone was describing above, there could be night time only quests and rooms that would otherwise not be accessible in the day. To solve the problems with Penguin Standard Time and the many different time zones that players live in, you could either select a time zone in the game settings or as Dencie described, your time zone would automatically be identified from the preferences and current time on your computer. To solve Penguin Standard Time conflicts, the clock tower would instead just display the time in your time zone rather than Penguin Standard Time. As for mascot or mod meet ups, the team could select a time and then have a list of what the time would be in each specific time zone, that way players do not get confused and can easily log on at the time that the meet up would end up being translated to in your time zone. Its a little difficult to describe, but hopefully you understand what I’m saying. I don’t think that the idea of simply being able to change the time setting in Club Penguin by selecting it, is as good because than some players will be playing at “night” (night mode) while others will be playing in the “day” (day mode). If there were to be certain content only available at night and a specific quest required players to work together, several issues could come up, probably being confusion from a difference in time of day settings.

I hope Club Penguin will add a night time feature soon. I think many players would like the feeling of reality that it would add to the game.

Thanks Phineas! I love your idea too =) When the transition come from afternoon to night it don’t have to enter again only see the sky turning purple and the stars the moon appearing and the sun hiding the rooms turning their lights on and hears the grasshoppers that would be so beautiful

As much as I like this idea, I think CP should focus on other things first such as CPNext, #projectsupersecret, mobile apps, among others.

Anyways, I actually like Jose Antonio’s solutions to the problem; there could be an option where you could choose from what country and state you’re from and the time will only affect to you. I’d also love to the season changes as well. In Winter, it could be snowy and the buildings would get more covered in snow. In Autumn, the leaves could change color and so on, determined by the corresponding season. Actually, they do that but with Rockhopper’s Rare Plants. If you don’t own them, then don’t worry. You can still view Saraapril’s website. She usually posts about the changes in them.

Now that I think of and although it sounds kinda off-topic, CP could bring back the idea of servers back in 2005-2008. For those old penguins, CP used to have a server menu listing 4 countries and penguins would be able to choose from what server they’d like to connect with other penguins from other countries. Back then, if I’m not mistaken they had United States, Australia, United Kingdom and Canada. CP could bring back that idea but still implement CPNext in the game. When a player chooses which server, the time will set up automatically depending on the server the penguin chose. If the penguin chose to login in an American server and it’s 8:00 PM PST, it’d be to nighttime while in the same thing if another penguin chose to login in an Australian server and it’s the same PST Time, it’d be dawn.

I’m sure many old penguins would love to see this idea back since they’d remember of “Old CP” and this could be a great solution to the time problem. It’s similar to Jose Antonio’s idea, but it’s still a good idea if CP is ever going to do such thing.

Still, I want other things to see on the game before they focus on that such as other rooms and minigames open in the Club Penguin App.

Awesome idea! Maybe to fix the time zone problem, the time of day/night would sync with the time on your computer?

I think they can make a part where it ask you in what country you live and every country have an hour so in asia and sometimes europe will be day and in america night also I think with winter summer spring and fall will be cool

I don’t like that nighttime would be only implemented only in Camping-like Party, but, do this feature permanently! For us in Europe if it is daytime, then it would be daytime in Club Penguin too, if it’s nighttime in US, Canada then it would be nighttime in Club Penguin too! I know the answer why Club Penguin is implementing the Daytime/Nighttime cycle, it is because not all the rooms have been completely re-designed for example the Beacon, Lighthouse, Iceberg and Underground Rooms, in the Underground Rooms such as the Underground Pool the moon light could be reflected!

While this certainly is a cool idea, I’m not really aure that the change will be worth it. For people on a completely different time zone than Penguin/Pacific Standard Time, it would be nighttime almost whenever they logged on. Also, events like the Halloween Party and Operation: Puffle like you said, those parties just wouldn’t be the same if they took place during the day. And it wouldn’t make much sense to stop the day/night cycle for EPF/Halloween or any yet-to-be-released parties that take place during the night, becaudr then people would wonder why the sun wouldn’t come out. Here’s an idea though- what if you could manually change the time? (i.e. maybe a Day/Night button in the settings box)

Yes! I love this idea! It could have a 24 hour schedule with 4 stages (morning, afternoon, evening, night)

Morning- after you watch the sunrise, and get a cup of coffee, you can go to the wilds, and take a hike with your friends.

Afternoon- this would be the same as club penguin is right now.

Evening- you would watch the nice sunset, as day turns to night. The cove would also be more lively during this time.

Night- the same as your suggestions, and the suggestions provided by @thepenguincat. My twist is that you can look for nocturnal creatures in the wilds. The wilds would become magical, and the extra rooms would open. The fireflies would light the wild. Club penguin should also add street lights.

I think that sounds awesome. Although having nightime in CP may be a little confusing.

CP has American time but, say you live in England,(Like me) if the sky changed colour according to the time of day and it was 8pm (night) the sky would be broad daylight because England is 8 hours ahead of America which makes it confusing and seem biased towards America.

The idea of nightime only parties would be a failure due to the reason above. If you live in a country where playing at night(American time)is impossible or you have a very slim chance then you could never experience them.

To me, changing the entire island to night exclusively for a party throughout the entire party is fine by me. Although, if there is a party where it cycles though the day, (Like the Music Jam 2014) make the entire island cycle and make it a bit longer between cycles.

It would be nice if there was some sort of Camping Party, and the entire island (or at least the main rooms of the party) became dark. It would rotate, with day being shorter, and night being longer. At night, at the campfire place, the fire would glow and would be magnificent, while during the day it would be out. It would really be cool to see this!

Thanks! It’s that I thought that if they had a Camping party nowadays, it could be much more indepth! We know that it gets dark, as seen from MJ14, as well as the Fairs and Holiday Parties.

Camp Penguin was basically a camping party, but it would be nice to see something similar on the island.
