This week’s Club Penguin Discussion is all about CP’s chat filter. Club Penguin has spent a lot of time and resources trying to perfect their chat filters. But have they ruined the basic methods of communication on Club Penguin in the process?
Back in 2008, Club Penguin had filters, but they weren’t as close to what is in place today. Of course if you cursed or anything like that, you would get banned. But if you simply tried having a conversation, it would go through the filter no problem. Nowadays, you can’t even have a full conversation without having something being blocked by Club Penguin’s filters.
I tried having a conversation with my friend, Kallie Jo, and the simple sentence, “Did you watch the game last night?” didn’t show for him. Personally, I think that is ridiculous. I don’t see anything wrong with that sentence at all… Do you? :/
You can’t even have a simple conversation without running into filter problems. I know Club Penguin wants to keep it safe and all, but in my opinion, I think they are going over the top.
Part of what made Club Penguin fun was the social aspect. A lot of penguins prefer the “Old Club Penguin” for a few reasons, but communication was one of them.
Spike Hike also tweeted last year that private chat would be making it’s way onto the island by the end of 2013. Unfortunately, it did not.
A few months after that tweet was sent, Spike Hike tweeted this out doubting private chatting.
Someone asked about private chat. Hmm…tricky that. Want to keep it safe. We have some great social things coming though. Stay tuned!

I made up a list of words and sentences that should be able to go through the filter, but for some odd reason, don’t.
- Do you think we can tip the Iceberg?
- Do you think a lot of people still play CP?
- My toque is pink.
- I think camping is fun do you?
- I love playing Nintendo games.
- I opened the door and saw a yellow puffle.
- My favorite puffle is the white one.
- My favorite season is winter.
- Do you like going out to eat?
- How is your day going so far?
Isn’t it ridiculous how the statements above wouldn’t make it passed the filters? 😛
In all, if Club Penguin wants to improve communication between their users, they are going to have to ease up on their chat filters. I can’t have a simple, normal conversation with my friend without there being filter problems! I prefer outside uses of communication as the filters are quite bad…
What do YOU think? Should Club Penguin ease up on their chat filters? Or should they stricken in them even more?
Leave a comment below, and let me know. 🙂
